Invited to the Palic International Film Festival

June 11, 2008 by clive

So, one of the consequences of hanging around at Cannes 08 ranting about scripts, film, micro-budgets and the future of distribution, to anyone in earshot, is I made a lot of new friends in the industry.

Cannes is pretty much the only place on earth, where the ability to rant about the future of film is considered a virtue. And… much to my surprise, I’ve now been invited as a guest to the Palic International Film Festival at the end of July.

So, look forward for posts and video interviews on the Eastern European movie scene at the end of July.

There is, however, a lesson to be learned from this invitation… and it’s about talking to other people in the industry. For most indies, the world revolves around other indies… mainly because we have easy access to them. The larger industry seems remote and fortress like, surrounded by agents and PA’s whose job is to keep us out. And yet, in just four days of pooching around Cannes, talking, ranting, asking questions, I was amazed at not just who I could talk to… but also that they were interested in what I had to say.

The industry really isn’t that different, the people involved aren’t that different either… when you get past the money, they’re just people who love films and want to make good ones.

Anyway, must dash, have to book a hotel in Budapest for my one night lay-over (Eek!)
